Pause any uploads and downloads. Demanding tasks like downloading or uploading a big file like video or music files will take up a large amount of internet bandwidth. Prioritize your Zoom call by pausing those activities until after your meeting is over. This includes pausing any scheduled file backups or pausing automatic updates to your computer or applications.

Those often happen in the background without you realizing it. Disable HD video. Turn off Wi-Fi on other devices. Switch to ethernet if available.

Instead of using Wi-Fi, use an Ethernet cable to access the internet. It’s a faster and more reliable connection. Since I travel quite a bit, I bring a foot Ethernet cable with me in case I have access to an Ethernet port to plug into. Use your cell phone as a mobile hotspot and log into Zoom using your mobile data. Tip: You should always test your audio devices to ensure that they are working prior to joining or hosting a new meeting.

In the Audio Settings menu, you can select which speakers or microphone that you would like to test, as well as adjust volume on these devices. Follow the instructions on your screen to call a phone number for the country you are in, enter the meeting ID and participant ID when prompted.

These simple steps should help you to set up and troubleshoot any sound issues prior to joining or within a Zoom Meeting. If your entire screen is black and you do not see any objects, there is a high possibility that you were banned from the Space. Bans are done by IP address.

This means if you tested the ban function on yourself or a member of your household, you may have banned yourself from your Space. Occasionally there may be issues with stored cookies or other information in your browser’s cache. Try clearing your browser’s cache to help resolve these issues. If you see a “Gather lost connection” error message, it’s possible you’ve lost connection to Gather’s servers.

You may still be connected to our video servers and be able to see and hear others, but movement and object interaction maybe affected. Try refreshing the page or switching browsers Chrome or Firefox work best.
